Peer teaching can be easily implemented in science, allowing students to better their own knowledge whilst also assisting others. ICTs can also be used to create engaging presentations and research effectively.
Brae Whatmore's curator insight, June 3, 2018 11:14 PM
Thanks for sharing Grace, I really liked the way this article showed evidence for peer teaching. The concept is something which I can apply to my classes, which also makes me consider how I could use digital technology to do so.

We’re not teaching the web correctly

We’re not teaching the web correctly | KILUVU | Scoop.it
Teenagers use social networking apps almost exclusively, and therefore, they don’t know that they are missing out on the wider web’s breadth. There are no thickets of hyperlinks, no galaxies of websites, no freedoms to hack and customize, no opportunities to learn snippets of HTML and CSS. That is because the skills they would need to take advantage of the web—to move beyond the borders of familiar apps—remain largely absent from traditional classroom settings.

Interesting views but I have mixed feelings about some.

LaDawna Harrington's curator insight, September 20, 2017 11:52 AM
School librarians should be the leaders to help build these competencies in their staff and students. The web is one source among many and the librarian can help forge the bridges to connect learning across the media landscape.

5 Highly Effective Teaching Practices

5 Highly Effective Teaching Practices | KILUVU | Scoop.it
Earlier this year, a piece from the Edutopia website was doing the rounds under the title "5 highly effective teaching practices".  I automatically question pieces like this as I doubt somewhat whether the purpose of the piece is actually to raise standards in the profession and develop teachers - or whether it is simply to…

different learners
Oskar Almazan's curator insight, March 9, 2017 11:28 PM
Remember when you were in school and you had to cram hundreds of pages of textbook material into your head before every big test? If you were like most students, you and your friends probably developed all kinds of tactics to make the grade. Maybe you made flashcards, or reviewed recordings of your professors’ lectures, or came up with intricate mnemonic devices to memorize the material at hand. You may have argued with your classmates about which method was best—but the truth is that, when it comes to learning, one size does not fit all. Scientists and psychologists have developed a number of different models to understand the different ways that people learn best. One popular theory, the VARK model, identifies four primary types of learners: visual, auditory, reading/writing, and kinesthetic. Each learning type responds best to a different method of teaching. Auditory learners will remember information best after reciting it back to the presenter, while kinesthetic learners will jump at the chance to participate in a hands-on activity.
Lina Gutiérrez's curator insight, May 18, 2020 3:34 PM
All the material that you want to transmit to your students, you must do it in a particular way. Take into account the 4 types of learners ( visual, auditory, reading/writing and kinesthetic) and try to create a way to transmit the information involving all of these types.
Through these article you will understand each particularity depending of the type of learner and which content is better for each one. It provides useful tips and explanations.

Science is pretty clear Learning by teaching can help improve student efficacy, confidence and communication skills. You can accomplish that by using adjuncts, have them teach during a lesson, teach small groups within the larger group. I’m a huge fan of peers teaching each other ...

Teaching — It’s about Inspiration, Not Information – Tina Seelig – Medium

“Nobody cares how much you know, until they know how much you care.” Theodore Roosevelt

This is an important reminder that teaching is all about building a relationship with your students. In fact, in today’s world, when information is at our fingertips, we don’t need to go to school to learn facts and figures — a quick Google search, a glance at Wikipedia, or a question posed to Siri will usually result in answers to specific questions.
Judith R Corcoran's curator insight, February 11, 2018 3:54 PM

I connected very much with this article.  Creating the vacuum that encourages students to pull in the information is my goal.

20 Things You'll Notice in a Productive Teaching Environment

20 Things You'll Notice in a Productive Teaching Environment | KILUVU | Scoop.it
The characteristics of a productive teaching environment are many and diverse. Some of them can be dependent on budgetary constraints and tech levels, while others can be specific to the kaleidoscope of world regions whose schools are working to build exceptional learners. At the end of the (school) day, though, there are those characteristics that translate across cultures and conditions and break boundaries to become global standards of excellence for each classroom.

Such is the list compiled by the staff of TeachThought in the article 20 Observable Characteristics Of Effective Teaching. So what are the characteristics of effective teaching, and what does the universal idea of a truly productive teaching environment look like? We share our take on the 20 points from their article below in the hopes that you can use them to reflect and improve on your own teaching craft.
