A Funny Side of Literacy - Edutopia

A Funny Side of Literacy - Edutopia | KILUVU | Scoop.it
When we talk about social skills and social and emotional learning (SEL), an important element is understanding the nuances of language, as well as the context, the situation, we are in with others. Communication in the English language is not simple, even for native speakers.

So when it comes to deciphering tough language, asking groups of students to work together to analyze puns can be both challenging and an enjoyable way to build language and literacy skills.

Five Ways Humor Boosts Creative Thinking and Problem-Solving in the Classroom | KILUVU | Scoop.it
When we think about creativity and innovation, the words “humor” and “goofiness” don’t typically come to mind. But I’d argue that this is a critical piece of what it means to cultivate a climate of creativity.

France Could Ban Emails After Work Hours

France Could Ban Emails After Work Hours | KILUVU | Scoop.it

France is one step closer to becoming the first country to set a curfew for email, after a bill banning companies with 50 or more employees from sending emails after work hours recently passed the French lower parliament.

The bill’s next destination is the French Senate, and if passed, it will be sent back to the National Assembly to become law. It would require businesses to define the work hours in which email can or cannot be sent, and is intended to reduce workplace stress.

Studies point to email as a major headache for consumers, with reports correlating checking email with negative health consequences....

The mokase phone cover turns your smartphone into a portable espresso maker

The mokase phone cover turns your smartphone into a portable espresso maker | KILUVU | Scoop.it

There will always be times in the day when you are in desperate need of a caffeine boost, yet no where near the closest café. and for these times, mokase have comprised the answer to your caffeine-deprived prayers, in the shape of a phone case that converts your smartphone into an on-the-go espresso maker. using a simple system of a disposable insert which houses the coffee, and an app that heats it up on demand, the mokase pours out an espresso made by your smartphone.

On setting out to develop a product to brew coffee whilst out and about, Luigi Carfora and clemente biondo of ‘smart k’ had the idea of incorporating it into a gadget already carried around every day—the smartphone. the duo successfully designed a case that measures less than 1cm in thickness,  is completely waterproof and insulates the coffee when brewed. through a side slit in the mokase, the ‘mokaromi’ cartridge is inserted. the coffee—sealed within a vacuum on the inside of the cartridge—is freed when inserted into the phone, as the ‘spout’ breaks the membrane of the vacuum allowing the drink to exit....

Using a disposable insert which houses the coffee, and an app that heats it up on demand, the mokase pours out an espresso made by your smartphone. At least, that's the intended design. Fanciful? Yes. Bring it on!
