For the first time, the World Economic Forum's (WEF) Global Risk Report claims that the top five risks the world is facing are all climate-related.
“It is the first time in the survey’s history that one category has occupied all five of the top spots," warns WEF’s president Børge Brende.
So for the fourth consecutive year, the WEF's annual meeting in Davos will be carbon-neutral, according to organisers. It's an event that sees more than 3,000 of the world’s leaders and decision-makers gather in Davos-Klosters, between 21-24 January, under the theme "Stakeholders for a Cohesive and Sustainable World”.

Le réchauffement climatique est un problème évident qui nécessite des solutions au plus vite pour limiter ses dégâts sur l’environnement. Les entreprises technologiques ont contribué à l’augmentation du taux des gaz à effet de serre dans l’atmosphère et se doivent ainsi de réparer leur tort. Cette semaine, Microsoft prend ses responsabilités en annonçant un gros plan qui se tiendra sur la nouvelle décennie. La société s’engage à effacer son empreinte carbone d’ici 2030 et à éliminer de 2030 à 2050 autant de carbone qu'elle en a émis au cours de son histoire.

Large companies are being increasingly questioned by their stakeholders, notably investors, on “their alignment with the objectives of the Paris agreement”.
In this context, at the initiative of 15 member companies (Alstom, Axa, Bouygues, CGG, Generali France, LVMH, Michelin, Schneider Electric, Société Générale, Sodexo, Suez, Thales, Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield, Vallourec et Véolia), AFEP commissioned the think tank The Shift Project in September 2018 to conduct a study, in order to deliver:

*   a mapping of the main energy/climate scenarios publicly available;
*   an assessment of the methodological choices made by company stakeholders when analysing companies’ disclosures ;
*   recommendations for companies in order to devise their own energy&climate scenarios and to integrate them in their strategies.

Bruno Le Maire a présenté les premières orientations de son pacte productif. Celui-ci doit permettre d’atteindre le plein-emploi en 2025, en favorisant la relocalisation d’usines sur le territoire. Mais cette réindustrialisation doit se faire en respectant l’objectif de la neutralité carbone de la France en 2050. Une équation difficile à résoudre, mais nécessaire pour assurer la transition écologique.

Climate Week New York saw companies form new coalitions to accelerate progress, such as the Business Avengers to champion the Global Goals and the One Planet Business for Biodiversity platform, while Climate Group’s RE100 passed the 200-member mark. Seventeen global companies, including Mars Inc, Diageo, SAP, Salesforce and Unilever, have joined forces under a new coalition called the Business Avengers to throw their weight behind the Sustainable Development Goals. Each company in the campaign, which was launched at Climate Week New York this week, has elected to represent one goal, with Mars, for example, promoting SDG1 on poverty, drinks giant Diageo championing SDG6 for clean water and sanitation, and Google sponsoring SDG8 for decent work and economic growth.  Barry Parkin, chief sustainability and procurement officer for Mars, told Ethical Corporation that with 50-100 million smallholders connected to global supply chains, companies have a big role to play in poverty-alleviation.

L’Assemblée générale de l’Organisation des Nations unies (ONU) a adopté 17 objectifs de développement durable (ODD), déclinés en 169 cibles pour la période 2015-2030. Ces objectifs et cibles constituent pour les États une feuille de route commune de la transition vers un développement durable.

Trois buts essentiels sont poursuivis :
1) lutter contre les inégalités, l’exclusion et les injustices ;
2) faire face au défi climatique ;
3) mettre fin à l’extrême pauvreté.

In particular, we see broader adoption of TCFD guidance as well as new risk assessment and scenario tools, and more banks carrying out risk assessments and scenario analyses.

Dans une étude parue le 10 octobre 2019, le Fonds monétaire international (FMI) préconise d'augmenter considérablement la taxe carbone afin de lutter efficacement contre le réchauffement climatique. Si les conséquences sur les factures énergétiques seraient pour le moins violentes, l'institution considère qu'il s'agit du "prix à payer".
